Fraternity and Sorority

Fraternities and sororities, also known as Greek Letter Organizations (GLOs), or collectively "Greek Life" in North America and the Philippines, are social organizations at colleges and universities. They are a form of social fraternity and are prominent in Canada, the United States, Europe, and the Philippines. Similar but less common organizations exist among middle school students, as do other fraternities for the adults. In modern North American usage, "Greek organization" is often synonymous with words like "fraternity" and "sorority."

Fraternities and sororities participate in charity events, throw parties, provide new members with "finishing" training, such as instruction in etiquette, dress and manners, and create networking opportunities for newly graduated members. Fraternities and sororities vary in their organization and purpose, but most share five elements in common: secrecy; single-sex membership; selection of new members on the basis of a two-part vetting and probationary process known as rushing and pledging; ownership and occupancy of a residential property where undergraduate members live; a set of complex identification symbols that may include Greek letters, armorial achievements, ciphers, badges, grips, hand signs, passwords, flowers, and colors.

Generally speaking, each fraternity or sorority has two official colors. Here are some famous fraternities and sororities with nice colors:

Phi Gamma Delta (ΦΓΔ): royal purple & white     Delta Chi (ΔΧ): red & buff

Pi Kappa Alpha (ΠΚΑ): garnet & old gold         Kappa Delta (ΚΔ): olive green & pearl white

Alpha Delta Pi (ΑΔΠ): azure & white             Kappa Kappa Gamma (ΚΚΓ): dark blue & light blue

Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority

When it comes to color, you have to bring out Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority. Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority is the first intercollegiate African American sorority in history. The sorority was founded on January 15, 1908 at the historically black Howard University in Washington, DC, with students led by Ethel Hedgeman Lyle. Due to the lack of opportunities for minorities and women in the early 20th century, this sorority was formed to break down barriers for African American women in areas where they had little power or authority. Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority was incorporated on January 29, 1913.

Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority is one of the largest Greek-letter organizations in the United States, with more than 300,000 members in 1,024 chapters in the United States and several other countries. Women may join through undergraduate chapters of the college or university, or they may be invited by the graduate chapter after acquiring an undergraduate or advanced university degree.

According to Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority’s official website, “Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority’s mission is to cultivate and encourage high scholastic and ethical standards, to promote unity and friendship among college women, to study and help alleviate problems concerning girls and women in order to improve their social stature, to maintain a progressive interest in college life, and to be of ‘Service to All Mankind.’”

Alpha Kappa Alpha is part of the National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC). Its motto is “By Culture and By Merit”. Ivy leaf is its symbol and pink tea rose is the represent flower. Its official colors are salmon pink and apple green, and the combination of the two is very harmonious and beautiful.

Embroidery’s Advantage

Among all kinds of clothing crafts, embroidery is definitely one of the best. Embroidery technology is often used in the production of high-end clothing and embroidered letters or patterns will give your custom jersey a more refined look. What’s more, embroidered letters or patterns are not easy to be frayed so that the jersey can still look like new after long time use. Fansidea products have a  good embroidery.

We hope this article and the custom tips can help you choose your ideal custom Greek jerseys for your fraternity or sorority to show your spirit in the Greek life events.
